We offer a number of residential support services, which provide personalised care and rehabilitation for those who need it.

Abeo House

Abeo House

Meaning ‘Change’ in Latin, Abeo House is an 8-bed residential service. It provides a personalised mental health residential service to assist people get the life they want.

Open to those who are being supported by a local community mental health team, people can stay with us for up to 18 months.

Poutama

Poutama is an 8-bed residential service to assist people experiencing both mental health and alcohol/substance abuse issues move forward in their lives. In Te Reo Maori, Poutama is a stepped pattern of tukutuku panels and woven mats symbolising genealogies and various levels of learning and intellectual achievement. Some say they represent the steps which Tāne-o-te-Wānaga ascended to the topmost realm in his quest for superior knowledge and religion. The tukutuku panels located at this service are called Poutama. The idea is to bring people on board to learn and focus on the progression ladder to wellness.

Poutama was the very first service in New Zealand to operate a ‘harm reduction’ philosophy, which has brought both unparalleled success and unique challenges. Accessed through the Waitemata District Health Board Adult Mental Health Services, most people stay for no more than one year.

Waikato Community Services

Ember provides a variety of services in the Waikato Community to support people experiencing Mental Health and Addiction issues in their chosen homes.

Individual Programs are delivered by a mix of Support Workers, Registered Mental Health Professionals, culturally supportive staff and people with their own experience of mental health issues ensuring that rehabilitation and support are performed by one integrated team.

There is no typical program, people have freedom, can make choices and work on practical, emotional and social skills at a pace and environment that feels comfortable for them.

The goal of the service is to work together to achieve peace of mind, body and spirit, to bring people out from institutions with a focus on community living and participation.

The service is provided 24 hours per day 7 days per week.  A referral is required from Te Whatu Ora Inpatient Coordination Team.

Toro Mai a Ringa

Toro Mai a Ringa is  a partnership with Lakes DHB under the Te Ara Tauwhirotanga model of care. Located within the community in Rotorua the residence provides support for people who have complex needs beyond the normal capability of residential mental health providers.

Its name means outstretched hands and it’s a place where people from within the Lakes rohe can rebuild their lives and go back to the community.
