HERE’S OUR VALUES – THE WAY WE ARE IS THE WAY WE ARE
A word from Darryl – Ember Korowai Takitini Group Chief Executive
It’s about who we are
Values communicate what’s important to Ember staff. They describe our daily behaviours towards each other and how we interact with those we serve. They are important because how we behave is a mirror of who we are and a reflection for how are perceived. The values belong to us all.
Concepts not words
Behavioural values cannot be expressed as single words, that’s why ours are founded in the Māori concepts of
Whakapono
Tino rangatiratanga
Kotahitanga
Kia Pono, kia tika
Concepts of belief and conviction, self-determination and leadership, connection and kinship and realness and integrity. They combine to remind us that at Ember
“We love what we do We believe in the potential of people and work together to achieve it We keep it real ”
Our values combined with our Vision of
An Aotearoa where all people are supported to be who and what they want to be. A society that better understands and responds to mental distress, addiction and intellectual disability.
and our Mission
We support people to live the lives they choose, and we challenge the systems that hold them back.
Work together to guide us to deliver our services in the spirit of Ember that was so beautifully expressed in the poem gifted to us at our launch by Grace Iwashita-Taylor.
I know that like me you everyone at Ember is proud of what we stand for who and how we are, and I hope that you are as excited as I am about watching how our values will impact on the sector and the tangata whaiora we serve.
You can read how our values sustained us through the COVID Pandemic here.
